Katie has been writing about craft and design for almost a decade, having launched confessions of a design geek in 2010. It was nominated for ‘Best Interior Blog in Great Britain’ within five weeks – an award it went onto win, launching her writing career. Alongside writing for titles such as Viewpoint, Monocle, The Guardian, Elle Decoration, Crafts Magazine and Design Milk, she launched Fiera in 2014, an independent magazine that she published and edited for three years, seeing it shortlisted for two awards. Katie has written four books: Interviews, Makers of East London, Urban Potters and Weavers and written the forewords to Residents: Inside the Iconic Barbican Estate and The Value of Making. Her background as a blogger, combined with an MSt in History of Design (University of Oxford) gives her an informed and yet accessible tone of voice. She can be relied upon to carry out in-depth research, bring a fresh perspective – and submit copy on time and to word count.

Katie is an accomplished and confident public speaker with over twenty years’ experience. She has spoken in front of audiences of hundreds, chaired intimate round-table events and appeared on Monocle’s radio station M24. She has given keynote speeches, hosted press conferences and chaired panel events. She has spoken at London’s Norwegian Embassy, the Hive Conference (Helsinki), the Tate Modern, Design Centre Chelsea Harbour, the London Design Festival and Clerkenwell Design Week. She offers a range of services from hosting podcasts, curating talks programmes and putting together diverse panels to delivering keynote speeches and chairing panel events. Prior to Katie’s current career, she studied marketing management gaining a BSc Hons degree and post-graduate diplomas with both the Chartered Institute of Marketing and the Institute of Direct Marketing. She spent 12 years in top London agencies from Wunderman to David & Goliath writing strategies for the likes of Blistex, Kia and Emirates. Combining her brand experience with her editorial skills and industry insight gives Katie a unique ability to help craft and design studios to define and articulate their brands. She offers a range of services from workshops for brand vision and tone of voice, to copywriting, ghost writing, editing and proof reading – and has worked with clients such as Maggie’s Centres, Bethan Gray and Universal Design Studios. Katie’s approach is collaborative, flexible and gently challenging, resulting in copy that is engaging, drives behaviour change and, most importantly, embodies brand values.
