Weaving: Contemporary Makers on the Loom, Tate Modern, October 2018
The Terrace Bookshop at the Tate Modern kindly hosted the launch event for my fourth book, Weavers: Contemporary Makers on the Loom. I chaired a talk with a panel comprising four of the weavers from the book: Lauren Chang, Jen Keane, Eleanor Pritchard and Karin Carlander. We discussed some of the themes raised in the book such as where weaving sits on David Pye’s spectrum from the workmanship of risk to the workmanship of certainty, the weavers’ relationships with the producers of their yarn and with industry and what purpose of their craft. The event sold out within a few days of tickets going on sale, and again when more capacity was added – in the end 150 people attended for a packed event (with over 500 more following via Instagram), followed by a book signing.
